The Crawford County Learning Center is a high school developed by USD 246 Northeast, USD 247 Southeast, USD 248 Girard, USD 249 Frontenac, and USD 250 Pittsburg. The school districts in Crawford County developed the school in an effort to provide an alternative education for students who have dropped out of school. The school is located in Pittsburg and offers flexible hours.

The Performance Based Diploma program develops general education, academic skills, and proficiencies in a vocational area. In the program, the system of achieving a certain number of credits based on the amount of “time” spent in class has been replaced by the performance standards which must be mastered in language arts, reading, math, science, social studies, and vocational areas.

Students who participate in the Performance Based Diploma program at the Crawford County Learning Center do not attend traditional classes, instead, they report to a computer lab setting with certified teachers. The teachers design a course of study that meets both the district requirements and the needs of the students. Students may work at their own pace as certified teachers instruct as needed.

Attending the Learning Center helps students to become lifelong learners. Completing course work at the school is the first step for students to begin fulfilling their life long goals.
